A team of robots are at the heart of a new venture as a Birmingham businesswoman finds new ways of helping clients save time and money.

Miranda Joseph’s futuristic helpers can be trained to ensure maximum efficiency in running a company – saving hundreds of thousands of pounds every year and helping businesses survive and prosper.

Miranda is the founder of digiworkr which is demystifying what’s known as Robotic Process Automation. Designed for finance teams, it sees robots take over admin tasks like finance processes and maintaining records.

Unlike R2-D2 or C-3PO, her robots are of the software variety and she is set to trial the technology with a Birmingham business.

Accountant Miranda says: “Businesses can train software robots to learn and then perform business tasks.

“The robots will interact with software systems in the same way humans do, regardless of what the system is – as long as it is digital, a robot can be trained to perform it.

“This is unique in that it is the use of new technology that will dramatically change the way businesses operate in the years to come.

“It is safe to say that future generations will question that we ever had an era of humans spending their precious time performing admin tasks.”

Miranda says that there are only a handful of UK companies embracing this new technology, although it has rocketed in popularity in the US.

For a company with a yearly £10million turnover, estimated savings could be up to around £200k in the first 12 months, with bigger savings predicted after that.

“Robotic Process Automation may seem like an esoteric concept to many but it’s very real, achievable and practical for companies.

“It gives your business the tools it needs to stay competitive in an ever-changing changing global village landscape the world of business is fast becoming.

“Businesses need to appreciate that their competitors are constantly considering way of becoming more efficient while still delivering quality services to clients who are spoilt for choice.”

Miranda first heard of RPA two years ago when she was researching how finance functions can be run more efficiently, reduce month end processing times and processing errors.

She says: “My fascination for RPA came from knowing just how much it could change the world of business processing, knowing first-hand how time consuming it can be to process and maintain accurate business records and keeping process teams motivated when managing enormous workloads, I knew I had to get involved and bring this to businesses.

“People hearing the term robots would probably think that it is very expensive and complicated to implement- that it will take numerous man hours from their almost always stretched IT teams and this is not the case. RPA is relatively simple to implement when working with experts – with the most important element being that the “bots” are adequately trained to perform the tasks at hand, there is very little involvement required from the business’s IT teams.”
