Ambitious community hub plan for Hednesford

Hednesford is to get a new community hub, café and garden under ambitious new plans. The scheme is going ahead following the award of a £105,000 grant from the Customer and Communities Fund at West Midlands Railway. The main attraction will be a fully-restored rail carriage converted into a café and community hub set within a newly-created leisure garden. There will also be Incredible Edible planting boxes, outdoor seating and a greenhouse. Children are being given the chance to design a unique family heirloom for their mum or dad in a competition being launched by a Birmingham jeweller. Joanne Turner, from GemPort Jewellery, was inspired to launch the giveaway after her own daughter gave her a beautiful pendant design as a Mother’s Day gift. A dad is embarking on a 1,000-mile cycling challenge in memory of the mother of his young son and to raise money for charity. Chris Hopkins and a team of nine other fundraisers will cycle from John O’Groats to Land’s End over nine days in September in memory of Marie O’Toole. She is the mother of his nine-year-old son Lewis and also mum to Elizabeth,19, Oliver, 16, and Charlie, 15. Marie, a carer, died in January at the age of 37, 12 months after first being diagnosed with cervical cancer and just three months after being told it was terminal.

Businesses donate 10,000 drinks and snacks to support NHS staff
