Three quick tips for pre-recorded TV news interviews
Face to face TV interviews for news or magazine programmes are still happening, now with social distancing measures in place and strict adherence to current guidelines on avoiding the spread of Covid-19.
Or they may be conducted over a video conferencing platform like Zoom.
This week we’ve been working with clients to arrange TV interviews for:
BBC
ITV
Channel 4
Local TV West Midlands
There’s lots of advice about how to prepare for interviews and how to conduct them available online.
Here are three quick practical tips we’ve been sharing with clients this week.
- Get pictures of preparation of the interview, and capture images of the interview in progress to share on social media to build interest before the broadcast, if there’s time. These could also be useful for a blog post afterwards if you’d like to boost interest by blogging about your experience.
- Don’t let your interviewer out of your sight until you’ve understood when your contribution is likely to be shown. They may not be able to tell you exactly, but it’s obviously important to ask. Some people overlook this.
- Get the lowdown on how you can access a clip of your interview. Some production teams may send you one, depending on the nature of the interview, some may point you in the direction of a department answering such requests, where there’s a charge. Some interviews may be shared on the TV station’s social media or YouTube channel which gives you a perfect chance to share.
